Principal Mike Keen is a LEED Certified Practitioner with more than a decade of experience as a sustainability professional. His areas of expertise include qualitative research methods, urban revitalization, green building and sustainable development. A social entrepreneur, he is trained in The Natural Step: Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development. He offers seminars, workshops and consulting to businesses, municipalities, not-for-profits, colleges and universities wishing to integrate sustainability into their products, services and curriculum.
Mike is a sustainability development specialist currently working on establishing a triple-bottom-line demonstration urban infill project in his own Near Northwest Neighborhood in South Bend, IN. He also offers support and services in the development of tiny houses and tiny living communities.

Mike Keen is Principal of Thrive Michiana LLC. He received his PhD in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame. Afterwards, he spent 30 years as a professor at Indiana University South Bend. Mike founded Thrive after thirty years as a professor at Indiana University South Bend. During that time he received numerous awards for his excellence in teaching, research and service.
In 2008, Mike founded the IU South Bend Center for a Sustainable Future. He then led the development of the first B.A. degree in Sustainability Studies in the State of Indiana. He was named IU South Bend's first Chancellor's Professor in 2014. In 2016, in recognition of his service to the community and the State of Indiana, he was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest recognition the State of Indiana can bestow upon one of its citizens.
